A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR PRINTING COLOR REPRODUCTION BASED ON UNDISCRIMINATION DOT GAIN NATURE You Xiong Zhengzhou Institute of Surveying and Mapping LongHai West Rd. Zhengzhou, Henan 450052 P.R.China This paper analyzes two kinds of dot gain in detail and develops a mathematical model for printing color reproduction based on undiscrimination dot \lain nature. The experiment shows that the model is of simple caculation, high precision and easy modification.

INK-PAPER INTERACTION A study in ink-jet color reproduction

An ink jet printing system consists of three fundamental parts: inks, printing engine, and substrates. Inks are materials creating color by selectively absorbing and scattering the visible illumination light. The printer acts as an ink distributor that governs the ink application. Finally, the substrate acts as a receiver of the inks and forms the images. Ink setting on the substrate is a compl...

Using genetic algorithms for spectral-based printer characterization

In recent years, many methods have been proposed for the spectral-based characterization of inkjet printers. To our knowledge, the majority of these are based on a physical description of the printing process, employing different strategies to deal with mechanical dot gain and the physical interaction among inks. But our experience tells us that as printing is a physical process involving a lar...

JIST cover 2006 (Page 1)

Multispectral printer characterization requires an effective model to map the inputs to the printer (i.e., the digital counts of the inks) into reflectance spectra and vice versa. Most of the methods for printer modeling are based on the color mixing model of Neugebauer, but this model, in its original formulation, is a rather poor predictor of the printer's output, since it fails to take into ...

Measuring Anisotropic Light Scatter within Graphic Arts Papers For Modeling Optical Dot Gain

Optical dot gain (ODG) plays an important role for predicting the color of printed halftones. The detailed knowledge of light scatter within the printing substrate might improve the accuracy of printer models and can reduce the number of required training colors to fit the model to the printing system. We propose an apparatus and method for measuring local anisotropic light scatter within graph...

Base models for color halftone reproduction

One of the main challenges for the characterization of printing systems consists, for a given substrate, in establishing the relationship between surface coverages of the selected set of inks and the spectral reflectances of the printed ink halftones. Knowledge of print halftone spectral reflectances enables deducing their colors. Models enabling the prediction of spectral reflectances as a fun...
